Thirty Years' War (1618-1648)

Background

The Thirty Years' War was a series of wars in central Europe between 1618–1648. It was one of the most destructive conflicts in European history, and one of the longest.It began when Holy Roman
Emperor Ferdinand II of Bohemia
Emperor Ferdinand II of Bohemia attempted to curtail the religious activities of his subjects, sparking rebellion among Protestants. The war came to involve the major powers of Europe, with Sweden, France, Spain and Austria all waging campaigns primarily on German soil. this war was split into 4 periods:

The Bohemian Period (1618-1625)

The Danish Period (1625-1629)

The Swedish Period (1630-1635)

The French Period (1635- 1648)


The Peace of Westphalia ended the Holy Roman emperor's hope of restoring both his own power and the Catholic faith throughout the empire. The empire was now fragmented into a number of virtually independent states
